Flies Tying

Fly Fishing-The Best Way To Get Started Right Is To Have Lessons
One of the primary methods in catching fish that I found useful and easy to use is the fly fishing method. Yes, I work as an ultrasound technician but my interest also goes fishing to learn more new techniques to enhance my knowledge on fishing. That’s why on my next ultrasound technician salary, I am planning to buy those set of fishing technique books that I saw once in a department store near the buildings of ultrasound technician schools. My interest in fly fishing started before I became ultrasound technician when my father first trained me in how to catch a fish in our nearby lake. I was really amazed how he skillfully threw that fishing rod and then minutes later his rod was shaking and finally he got a big fish! So, until now, after receiving my next month’s salary, I will then go to my parent’s house with my children and visit the elders, and then started to go fishing, of course. You might be fly fishing in a stream for trout, or even somewhere for exotic saltwater fish, you better watch out because you can get addicted to the fun sport of fly fishing. When you get out into nature and try your skill as a fly fisherman, you might find that those fish are smarter than you thought. To get the best out of your fly fishing, you need to choose the right gear, the right location, and more, and that's what you will learn in this article.
You will scare the fish away if you approach them in the wrong way, so in that way fly fishing is a type of hunting. It is a big mistake for those who are fishing for the first time, to not realize that their presence is known by the fish. Fish are perfectly capable of not only hearing you, but also seeing you, so don't assume that the live in another universe. You should watch what you step on, to keep the noise down when walking. If you talk to loudly, you can scare the fish away. Stay behind the fish, so they won't see you. You need to not slash the water as you are wading through it, because the vibrations in the water will scatter the fish.
You've probably realized that the most important skill you need to be successful at fly fishing is casting. Your accuracy at casting will have a lot to do with your success or failure. If you want to land your lure where your fish is, you must learn to cast accurately. It will stand you in good stead to practice your casting technique whenever you can while you're not actually fishing. Another reason to practice at home, maybe against a garage door or wall, is that when you're at your fishing spot you want to be as quiet and still as possible. Simply attach some kind of target, or marker, to the surface you are going to practice against and work on your accuracy.
You should accumulate as much information about fly fishing as you can. Experience will help, of course, but there are also many places where you can pick up helpful tips. There are some good magazines devoted to fly fishing, and subscribing to one would be an ongoing source of useful information and inspiration. There may be a fly fishing club or organization in your area; joining this would immediately connect you with others with the same interest. There are also many online resources, such as websites and forums where you can further your fly fishing education. There are quite a few aspects to fly fishing, and the best way to get familiar with it is to practice. It's good to find some favorite locations where you can become familiar with the conditions and the patterns of the fish. The tips we've covered in this article can be helpful for starting out, and the more fishing you do, the faster you'll learn.

A. K. Best's Fly Box: How to Tie the Master Fly-Tyer's Patterns $24.95 Fly fishers meeting streamside often go through a garrulous ritual, the aim of which is not friendship but espionage: Catching anything? On what? Rising fish? Mmm . . .what're they looking at? And sometimes during this dialogue, an angler might happen to get a glimpse into the fly box of a lifelong student of fly fishing--a moment's opportunity that will both impress and pique the wishful fly tyer. A. K. Best's Fly Box, provides a much longer, much more detailed and explanatory look into the creations and methods of a great fly tyer. More than two hundred full-color illustrations depict naturals and their well-developed imitations--Cahills, Green and Brown Drakes, BWOs, PMDs, Red Quills, Tricos, Caddis, Midges, Stoneflies, Terrestrials, and more. A. K.'s step-by-step tying instructions not only teach the reader how to make excellent imitations, but also demonstrate an approach to tying that he has refined over years of practice. In fact, the author insists that he ties a hundred dozen copies of a single pattern before he can feel confident that he truly knows that pattern. A. K. has fished with all of the flies in this book for at least sixteen years, many as long as thirty-five years, continuously refining the patterns to make them easier to tie, more durable, and more effective at fooling trout. Fly Fishing the Yellowstone in the Park $13.11 The Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park is widely know for two things: the spectacular Yellowstone Falls, and a few miles of world-class dry-fly fishing for native cutthroat trout. But for all its reputation for easy pickings for big fish, the river can be devilishly difficult, depending on the season and the fishing conditions. Those big, burly cutthroats have seen it all and, at times, they can seem downright jaded--unless you know how to fish for them. West Yellowstone guide and fly shop owner Bob Jacklin and world-renowned angler Gary LaFontaine both know how. Calling on thirty-two years of experience, BOB JACKLIN knows the Yellowstone's fish and the fly patterns needed to fool them, its insects, and its moods, and he sets it all down in this concise, readable guide. LAFONTAINE adds what he learned in his twenty-plus years fishing the Yellowstone and shares the fly patterns he finds the most effective. Together they lead you through the river's seasons, its hatches, and its special reaches and runs. This book is the next best thing to having Bob and Gary at your side when you fish the Yellowstone in the park. Included are a hatch chart, a list of popular flies, and more than twenty tying recipes for the most effective patterns to catch fish in the Yellowstone River. |
